North Craven Basketball Winners!

Monday 10th December was the long awaited Basketball Competition for children in Year 3 and 4.  After weeks of coaching from Mark Gunn, Basketball Coach in both PE lessons and afterschool Basketball Club, a group of 5 boys donned their new bright green team kit and travelled to Giggleswick School for an evening of basketball.  Our first game was against Giggleswick where we started very well, winning 5-0.  Baskets coming from Asher (2), Joe and George (2).  Our next game was against Long Preston.  After a short drink and rest, the boys turned their eyes to the court and realised that this was going to be a little tougher.  The team from Long Preston was a little taller than they were.  A hard fought match ended with a draw, 1-1, with the single goal coming from Asher.  After a short rest where the team discussed team tactics, the next match was against Settle.  A win again, with 2 goals, 1 each from Aher and Dan and some superb defensive playing from Finley to ensure no goals were conceded.  The final game was against Giggleswick B team and the boys knew that they had to win as the whole competition was being fiercely contested.  3 baskets from Asher and another from George led to a 4-0 victory.  Again super defending from Finley.  A nervous wait the then winning team was announced….Bentham!  A great evening of Basketball and a very well deserved victory.  Thanks to the boy’s parents for driving them to and from Giggleswick, to Mark Gunn, Basketball Coach, for his highly skilled coaching, Mr Simons for organising the competition and to Mrs Pearson who turned up and kept the scores on the night!
