During the Spring Term, Class 4 were studying South America during our Topic lessons. Within our English lessons, we used the much loved story by Eva Ibbotson - Journey to the River Sea, as a stimulus for our reading and writing. The story follows a young girl, Maia, and her voyage to The Amazon Rainforest to live with her distant relatives.
The children in Class 4 were hooked with the book from the very first lesson and we managed to create some wonderful writing. We looked at how Eva had described Maia's journey down the Amazon River and used vivid vocabulary as well as similes and personification to create some incredibly detailed versions of our own.
We also discovered that Maia loved reading and before making her move to The Amazon, she spent many evenings visiting her school library to find out about life in the jungle. Therefore, we created some of our own information pages for Maia so that she could learn as much about her new home as possible. Take a look at the wonderful work in the pictures below.
