On 6 October at 7.30pm Settle Sessions celebrated National Poetry day at Victoria Hall in Settle. There were poems by Michael McCarthy and John Killick as well as poetry by children from North Craven Schools, including two poems from children here at Bentham CP School. As well as the programme of great poems from leading poets and local children, the winners of the National and Children’s competitions winners also read their work, along with the winner of The Craven Funniest Poem competition. From established poets and writers in the UK to new and emerging ones, the evening brought a wide range of styles and voices for everyone to enjoy — from the classics, contemporary and popular, to inspiring and haunting, funny and poignant. The evening began with Lauren Taylor reading her poem 'Home', which came 2nd in the children's competition and also Harry Armstrong reading his poem also titled 'Home' which was highly commended. It was a fantastic opportunity for both Harry and Lauren to read out their poems in such a fantastic building but also to such a large audience. Well done Harry and Lauren, we are very proud of you!
