Welcome to Class 1!
About Class 1
Class 1 is taught by Mrs Chapman alongside Mrs Batty, Mrs Nelson and Miss Boocock.
Class 1 is where our children spend their first year in school. We have a mix of full time reception children in class and full or part time Nursery age children.
Our aim in Class 1 is to develop confident, happy and life-long learners.
We enjoy a balance of adult initiated activities and access to areas of continous provision which provides children opportunities to develop their learning further and practise new skills in an enabling environment. We are also very lucky to have access to a fantastic outdoor area, allowing us to learn and develop skills outside alongside children in Class 2.
Children are welcome to bring waterbottles into school although we do provide milk and water for our children along with a healthy snack each day. Book bags need to be in school each day for our Reception children. Remember if books need changing they can be left in the book box. Books are changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
This Half Term
Each half term we have a main topic that is the focus of our activities. From this central theme we plan activities across the different areas of early learning and incorporate the children’s particular interests and enthusiasms into our planning as we go.
Learning in Early Years occurs through practical activities with continued free-flow access to the indoor and outdoor continuous provision being an important part of our school day.
This half term our main topic is titled ‘Once Upon a Fairy Tale’
We will be exploring a range of stories including Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Ridinghood.
We are flexible with topics to follow interests and needs of the children.
Reception - Across school we have Brain Builder homework and we share this homework with eachother during our 'Brain Builder Gallery' on a Thursday. New challenges are set on the Friday by Mrs McGregor. If there are any questions please come and ask. Children are also asked to read at home as often as possible, at least three times a week would be fantastic! Research shows that the more often a child reads at home to an adult, the more progress they make. Each Friday during Praise Assembly, a child from each class will be presented with a certificate for fabulous reading! It may be that they have done lots of reading at home that week, tried really hard during phonics sessions or showed great comprehension.
Nursery - Nursery children will also have a Brainbuilder book. For Nursery children we will send home some ideas of how children can practise new skills at home. These will be when we feel it is appropriate for individual childdfren. If cfhildren have done something in their Brainbuilders book at home please put it in the book box so that we can share their work with the class.
This term we will be doing PE on Wednesday but please ensure PE kits are in school all week. We take children outside, whatever the weather, so please ensure that children have kit for both indoors and outdoors. Our PE will involve controlling a ball with our hands and feet. We are also very lucky to have Kathy from 'Pedal and Scoot' in school for three full days this half term to teach our Reception and Year 1 children to ride their bike without stabilisers.

Children in Class 1 have a fruit snack each day and all children up to the age of 5 are entitled to Milk, We encourage children to bring a water bottle to school.
