WELCOME TO YEAR 4!

Year 4 is taught by Miss Phillipson. We are extremely lucky to be supported by Miss Harrison. 

WHAT WILL WE BE LEARNING?

Maths - This term we will be looking at multiplication and division, length and perimeter, fractions and decimals. 

English – We will be reading Firework Maker’s Daughter and How to Train Your Dragon. We will be looking at a range of texts to support reading and writing. The children will be writing a range of fiction and non-fiction texts.

Science - We will be learning about states of matter. Comparing grouping materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases. We will then be looking at living things and their habitats.

History - We will be exploring how the monarchy has changed over time in Britain.

Geography- We will be looking at the human and physical characteristics of different regions of the United Kingdom.

Art- We will be looking at textiles and digital media.

Design and Technology- We will be creating mechanical structures.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

What to bring: Each day, book bags should be brought to school and in them your homework diary, reading book and water bottle. Please ensure to bring a coat every day.

Spellings: Year 4 will be tested on their spellings every Friday. A spelling list will be sent out at the start of every half term. The children will have weekly spellings and different spelling rules to practise so the children can develop their spelling which will support their reading and writing.

Reading Books: Year 4 will choose a book which they would like to read and this will be their reading book for both home and school. It is important that this book comes into school every day. Please ensure children have noted in their homework diaries when they have read at home.

Brain Builders: Brain builder homework will be sent out in the first week of half term and we ask that these are returned in the last week of half term. Brain builder work will include a menu of activities linked to the different subject areas we are covering in school.

PE:  Year 4 will be doing PE on Monday and Tuesday. Children will continue to come in their PE kit for the entire day. Please ensure children are not wearing earrings on these days. If they cannot remove them, they won’t be able to take part in the lessons. On PE days, children should come to school in a plain white t-shirt, plain dark coloured joggers or shorts, plain dark coloured jumper (not school jumper), trainers or pumps.
